May 30 - 31 Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days is back!
The San Francisco SPCA is kicking things off with a cocktail party on Friday, May 29 at the Mission campus. Adoption fees will be waived all weekend to help animals find their new home. Last year, SF SPCA sent home 128 animals during Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days. They hope to double that number this year. more »

DogTrekker is happy to report that our rescue partners, the San Francisco SPCA and Pets Unlimited, have merged, creating a centralized animal care nonprofit. As a result, the organization’s two veterinary hospitals will both fall under the San Francisco SPCA Veterinary Hospital name. Despite the name change, there will be no changes in operations at the hospitals. Clients and their pets will continue to receive great care from the same veterinarians and support staff at each campus location. more »

Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days is offering free adoptions to qualified households at events throughout the Bay Area May 31 and June 1. Help them reach their goal of finding loving homes for 10,000 homeless animals during this amazing 2-day event.

In December, SFO will launch a new program, titled “Wag Brigade,” to bring trained dogs to the terminals to make passenger travel more enjoyable. The San Francisco Chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) will bring nine dogs, certified through their Animal Assisted Therapy (ATT) Program, to roam the terminals to take the stress out of holiday travel.  more »

Locally, the San Francisco SPCA started noticing that a high percentage of people who brought their dog to the SPCA's veterinary and spay/neuter clinics said they'd bought the dogs from online breeders. Conducting a survey, the SPCA found that about 30% of the local dogs in its sample appeared to be puppy mill alumni. And all too often, these dogs end up in the shelter system, with health or behavior issues due to their bad start in life.  more »

DogTrekker and staff (including our Chief Operating Dog, Kayla) attended a fun-filled day on Treasure Island Saturday, August 2nd for the 2nd Annual Harvest Howl. Held at the very dog-passionate Treasure Island Winery, there was wine tasting for uprights 21 years and older, K9 obedience and demonstrations, local food vendors and plenty of doggie-treats to go around.  more »

You and Captain can unleash your inner pirate in style at the second annual Harvest Howl at Treasure Island Wines on San Francisco's Treasure Island—except we're pretty sure you'll be eating and drinking in finer style than the buccaneers. Launchers of the TI wine scene in 2007, dog-friendly from the get-go and big supporters of the San Francisco SPCA, TI Wines puts it all together in a 1-4 p.m. event in which you and yours can cruise and schmooze amid the casks inside the winery (a former Navy post exchange) and enjoy artisan wines crafted to pair well with tasty foods, of which there will be plenty.

Hundreds of dogs and their human uprights spent a beautiful Dog Day on The Bay last Sunday aboard the San Francisco Belle, largest of the seven vessels operated by Hornblower Cruises & Events on San Francisco Bay. The 7th annual fundraiser for the San Francisco SPCA included a two-hour cruise, doggie buffet (humans had their own delectable buffet as well), live entertainment, water bars, stunning bay views—and a sod-covered poop deck.
