DogTrekker operates on the principles set forth in its 4-Paw Promise: “To deliver local and accurate listings, provide engaging and actionable content and focus on social commitment to the communities we serve.” The “social commitment” part of that promise encompasses more than 300 rescues, shelters and adoption centers listed on our website and mobile app. We provide visibility, awareness campaigns, adoptathon coverage and fundraising opportunities to many of these. Here’s a short list of organizations that would deeply appreciate your holiday remembrance. more »
Bandit - Golden Gate Labrador Retriever Rescue
Bandit - Golden Gate Labrador Retriever Rescue
Meet Bandit. He's 12. Or maybe 13. But you'd never know it. He's remarkably healthy, happy, playful, and good-natured, with no health issues other than slightly creaky hips. He loves car rides. He loves fetch. He loves walks. His manners are excellent. Other dogs fine. He is, in short, a real gem and the perfect companion for your DogTreks. (Read all about him on Golden Gate Labrador Retriever Rescue's Labs Available page.) more »
Harley
Harley
Recently, the good folks at Golden Gate Labrador Retriever Rescue noticed that a growing number of the dogs who needed them came with health issues that were treatable, but often pricey. They also were encountering many elderly Labs who suddenly found themselves homeless and facing a bleak future due to their people's life changes. GGLRR responded by launching a Special Needs/Senior Fund, dedicated to getting these deserving critters into safe, loving homes where they can be happy, healthy and part of the family again. Currently looking for a place to spend his golden years is the lovely Harley, who is s 11 years old, in excellent health, and ready for fun. more »

Some of the dogs who land at Golden Gate Labrador Retriever Rescue were found as strays or come from bad situations. Young Lab/border collie mix Titus wandered the streets of Madera before being rescued; Silicon Valley girl Bailey, a 1-year-old chocolate Lab, was in a stairwell at Intel, but nobody claimed her. Others, especially the seniors, have had long and happy lives with the same people, but a job loss or family tragedy can change everything. more »

Bruce
If you're looking for the perfect companion, look no further than Bruce here. He was the same family's perfect companion almost all his life, and they clearly took great care of him—and then they got a new landlord who said the dog had to go. more »

Over at Golden Gate Labrador Retriever Rescue, they often take in purebred representatives of the most popular breed in the country who have the bad luck to end up homeless because, for one reason or another, life happens. But they also have some great dogs whose gene pool is Lab and a bonus. Take Kaya here, a mellow lady of Lab and border collie ancestry who shows the best qualities of both breeds. more »
Jinx the lab
There's a reason Labrador retrievers are the most popular dog breed in America. You probably have met many representatives of this gentle, intelligent, family-loving breed, or even or been loved by one. Yet all dogs, even the most undemanding, require an ongoing commitment of time, money, exercise, discipline and affection. And sometimes, life intervenes to make it impossible for people to care for or keep their pets. That's where Golden Gate Labrador Retriever Rescue comes in.  more »
