The Suisun Valley in Solano County is one of the wine country's best-kept secrets. Although the area’s winemaking tradition dates back to the late 1800s, planting began to expand steadily during the last 20 years.

Years ago when large corporate wineries in Napa and Sonoma wanted grapes for the three hottest varietals — cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, and merlot — Suisun Valley growers were among their preferred suppliers. Today, just about every variety of wine-grape is being grown in this region. More importantly, Suisun Valley wineries are earning a reputation of their own; growing, producing, and selling premium, award-winning wines.

A short ride from Vacaville, wineries in what is described as Rustic Wine Country are a must-visit attraction, and as a bonus, your pup gets to join you. Vacaville hotels and inns are some of the most reasonably priced around. In fact, they can be up to 50% less expensive than lodging in nearby Napa or Sonoma.
