Sequoia Humane Society

Tux is waiting for a homeThis bright young guy is Tux, who's already dressed up for the holidays in a permanent tuxedo. Now a year old, he's a retriever/kelpie mix who brings the best of both worlds. He craves an active lifestyle and loves adults, kids, and other dogs. He's also a very smart boy who'd benefit from advanced training, as he's already learned such basics as "sit", "down" and "come", not to mention the clever feat of shutting the door.

Tux is one of many cute dogs who have found a safe place to land at the Sequoia Humane Society in Eureka while waiting for their forever home. A privately funded organization, Sequoia Humane addresses multiple aspects of its no-kill philosophy in a holistic fashion—so not only are Tux and his pals safe and sound while they wait, they also get plenty of walks and TLC from dedicated volunteers. Besides adoptions, Sequoia Humane offers spay/neuter assistance for low-income households, microchipping and DNA testing to the community, as well as humane education and other outreach.

If you're in the area on Friday, Dec. 14, stop by the Tailwaggers Thrift Store in Henderson Center (on the corner of Henderson and F Streets, 2737 F Street, Eureka) with your pooch to sample species-appropriate treats and get your photo taken with Santa for a $5 donation.

The shelter's Holiday Open House will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15, between the hours of noon and 5 p.m. Come enjoy refreshments and leave a gift under the tree for a shelter animal! The shelter is located just south of Eureka on the King Salmon exit, 6073 Loma Ave.
