Ah, Mendocino! This Northern California county’s beautiful stretch of coastline is a perfect place to retreat to in summertime, especially when the Central Valley is a bit warmer (don’t forget a sweatshirt—you may need it). And you can’t choose a more beguiling place to stay than super dog-friendly Little River Resort & Spa, perched on a bluff overlooking the Pacific. As far as water and your dog goes, check out their popular Water Dog package.

It’s centered around a historic home built in 1853 that now includes 65 ocean-view rooms and cottages, a nine-hole golf course with pro shop, a day spa and renowned dining room (dogs welcome to join you in the parlor).

With a Water Dog package, you and your four-legged friend will enjoy a pet-friendly ocean-view gas fireplace room for two nights, pet-friendly dining voucher for $120, a dog-friendly kayak sea cave tour off of Van Damme or a river tour of the Albion River and goodie bag. Packages start at $755 plus tax and gratuity.

And consider the location: From the inn, DogTrekkers have quick access to other dog-friendly splash spots including MacKerricher State Park, Mendocino Headlands State Park, Cook’s Beach, Glass Beach and Big River State Beach.
