Stretching from Roseville to Lake Tahoe, Placer County is an up and coming wine region as well as a recreation magnet. Most of the 20 dog-friendly wineries and tasting rooms on the Placer County Wine Trail are north of Interstate 80 around Lincoln, Loomis and Auburn.

In Loomis, the Casque tasting room is a new addition to the Flower Farm, a long-established garden center, farm stand, café and events center that’s fun to visit whether or not you sample the small-production Rhone and Bordeaux-style wines made from local fruit. Not far away, in Lincoln, GoatHouse Brewing Co. is one of the most unique craft breweries around. There’s an old barn housing a family-friendly taproom, plus picnic grounds, a hop yard, a herd of goats and other farm products you’re welcome to walk around and view.
