When you and Duke want a dose of adventure, head out on one of the dog-friendly trails in Greater Palm Springs. From no-sweat nature hikes to exhilarating uphill climbs, there’s plenty to explore in this eye-catching oasis with its vast network of trails weaving through canyons, foothills, and mountains. Here are five hiking trails that will have you both bounding with enthusiasm during your odyssey outdoors.

East Indio Hills Badlands

A moderate 5.3 mile journey, this new dog-friendly trail twists through the fascinating geographic formations along the infamous San Andreas Fault—from badlands through narrow slot canyons and sandy washes—before treating hikers to stunning views of the entire Coachella Valley.

La Quinta Cove Oasis

Visitors and locals alike frequent this well-marked trail at the top of picturesque La Quinta Cove in the foothills of the Santa Rosa Mountains. With only a 390-foot elevation gain, it’s perfect for all levels of hikers.

Chuckwalla Trail Loop

Named after a large lizard, this popular 2.1-mile trail snakes along the lower perimeter near Rancho Mirage City Hall.  It’s a local favorite at dawn for phenomenal sunrise views.

Whitewater Preserve to Red Dome
Not exactly up for the 2,650-mile trek along the renowned Pacific Crest Trail? You and your pup can enjoy three miles of the PCT in beautiful Whitewater Canyon where a 20-foot tall hill of brick red volcanic mud marks the turnaround point.
