Please note: The Park Trail between West Pacific and Crissy Field and the Bay Area Ridge Trail between Arguello and Rob Hill Campground will be closed temporarily to all dogs (on or off leash) due to reports of aggressive coyote behavior.
During pupping season coyotes are especially protective of their pups, and the parents may exhibit aggressive behaviors when they encounter other canines. In response to recent reports of aggressive coyote behavior toward dogs, the Presidio Trust is taking additional precautions to protect people and pets. Trails are expected be open to dogs in August/September 2017 after pupping season ends. (Updated 6.6.17)

Since the Spanish first arrived in 1776, the Presidio's soldiers have maintained their guard over the riches of the San Francisco Bay. This serene corner of San Francisco is the oldest continuously used military post in the nation -- and it's certainly one of the most beautiful. Transferred from the Army to the National Park Service in 1994, the Presidio offers forests, creeks, trails, views, architecture, and history for today’s park visitors. It also tends to be a favorite place among Bay Area dog people.

While many dogs and their owners stay close to the beach and the flatlands, the in-the-know crowd heads to the the upper reaches of the Presidio, and the 24 miles of trails winding along the Presidio's coastal bluffs, through shady forests and past historic sites and neighborhoods that seem a world removed from the bustling city below.
