This wild and windswept beach has been featured in so many movies, photo books and calendars that you'll have an "aha" moment when seeing it in person for the first time.

Pfeiffer Beach, administered by the U.S. Forest Services, lies at the end of a two-mile stretch of dirt road signed Sycamore Canyon Road. Look for the hard-to-spot turnoff from Highway 1 between the Big Sur Ranger Station and the post office.

Dogs must remain on a 6 foot leash on the beach, trails and in picnic areas. Don't forget to bring fresh water for both of you!

There are three pet-friendly campgrounds at MacKerricher State Park, just three miles from Fort Bragg in Mendocino County.
