Welcome to the Vine Trail!

The Napa Valley Vine Trail Coalition is a grass-roots nonprofit with a vision to build a walking/biking trail system to connect the entire Napa Valley—physically, artistically, and culturally.

With your help the Napa Valley Vine Trail Coalition is working to design, fund, construct, and maintain 47 safe and scenic miles of level, paved, family-friendly, pet-friendly(!), free-access Class I trail, stretching from Vallejo's Ferry to Calistoga.

Beginning in historic Vallejo's Ferry Terminal (thus linking with the greater Bay Area), the Vine Trail will continue north for 47 miles, through the world-renowned vineyards and towns of Napa Valley, to its northern gateway in Calistoga at the Oat Hill Mine Trail (Hwy29/ Silverado Trail) at the foot of Mount St. Helena.

Collect Stamps at Yountville Tasting Rooms

If you’re up for a special-occasion getaway centered on food and wine and can’t leave your four-legged other behind, consider the oh-so-chic Napa Valley town of Yountville. This culinary mecca is chock-a-block with strollable tasting rooms and restaurants (most with dog-friendly outdoor seating). Some 19 tasting rooms clustered within a mile of each other participate in the Yountville Wine Walk, which awards prizes based on the number of establishments visited. more »

Like Art? Leash Up and Feast Your Eyes

Napa Valley isn’t all about food and wine; it’s also a magnet for artists and art lovers from around the world. Combining a dog walk with a little art appreciation is a great way to spend a day—and get some unique backdrops for your photos while you’re at it. Start with the 2017-2019 Napa Art Walk, called “Shifting Perspectives,” featuring 10 sculptures by artists from four Western states installed in downtown locations. more »

Napa Valley is amazingly dog-friendly, with scores of wineries and restaurants welcoming four-legged visitors accompanied by humans. When it comes to hiking, head to Moore Creek Park, on the north side of Lake Hennessy near St. Helena. Among 15 miles of trails here is the serene, 5.6-mile Shoreline Trail/Alta Hennessey Loop, which traces the perimeter of this fresh-water reservoir with a jaunt into the hills along a dirt road. more »

Looking for ways to combine hiking with wine tasting and a really tasty lunch? A new opportunity for DogTrekkers awaits along the newly inaugurated Napa Valley Vine Trail, a paved, multiuse path that eventually will stretch 47 miles from the Vallejo ferry terminal to Calistoga. For now, a 12.5-mile segment from Napa’s Kennedy Park to the tony enclave of Yountville is ready for feet, paws and bicycles, with only a short stretch requiring a detour onto city streets. more »

The Napa Valley wine harvest is in full swing right now, but not for long. Come October, the vines will be blazing orange and high-season crowds will have dissipated. Go midweek if you can—and if time is short, consider staying at the Meritage Resort in the south end of the valley, just an hour from San Francisco or Sacramento. more »
