Mt. Shasta Nordic Center offers groomed ski trails for people and a limited 1.5 mile snowshoe trail for locals and visitors alike.

Directions to the Mt. Shasta Nordic Center:

The Mount Shasta Nordic trailhead is located approximately 10 miles off of Interstate 5 near Mount Shasta City. From Interstate 5, exit onto Highway 89 South which is marked as the exit to McCloud. After 6.5 miles on Highway 89, turn left (north) on Ski Park Hwy. After 3.5 miles look for the Cross Country Ski parking lot on the left (one mile before the Downhill Ski Park).

* A Note on Dogs

The groomed trails at the Nordic Center are no-dog trails. Dogs are fine on the snowshoe trail and ungroomed areas within the Nordic Center. Good etiquette requests that all dogs be leashed until they’re away from the trailhead area.

For skiers who are looking to accompany their dog on a groomed trail: just a few hundred yards beyond the Nordic Center at the sharp bend on the Ski Park Highway is a parking lot in which dogsleds often set up. From that parking lot, the road is groomed several miles to the east. It may not be as meticulous grooming as the Nordic Center, but dogs are fine!

For backcountry touring, the Sand Flat area on Mt. Shasta provides ideal terrain for skier and dog alike. If you travel up Everitt Memorial Highway from downtown approximately 10 miles, you’ll find a couple small parking areas to the left side of the road. Off into the woods to the same side lies wonderful touring opportunity.
