What started as some hops and a dream for a group of locals has become an awarding winning restaurant. A favorite among locals as well as a destination spot for world travelers, Half Moon Bay Brewing Company is a community place where people can come together to celebrate food, friends, and fun.

This coastal venue serves up amazing food, handcrafted beer brewed fresh on site—and, best of all, a dog-friendly patio complete with blazing fire pits and a tranquil view of the harbor. While you may not have been out surfing Mavericks, the close proximity to the most notorious surf break on the California coast adds to the  alchemy of this spot.

HMB Brewing welcomes your four-legged companion with complimentary, house-made dog treats dubbed "Maverick Bones" as well as a special menu just for dogs.

HMB Brewing was the first green-certified business on the San Mateo County coast. Many energy and water-saving measures are in effect, along with a recycling program. Only sustainable species of seafood are served. On the philanthropic side, the company has donated more than $500,000  to scholarships and charities.

DogTrekkers who live inland know they’re never far from Sweatshirt Land. So when the mercury climbs, those in the know leash up their pups and head for the coast, making base camp in unhurried towns like BeniciaPacifica, Point Reyes Station (gateway to the national seashore) or Half Moon Bay, all of which are well appointed with hiking trails. Our most recent weekend away was to Half Moon Bay, where early-morning fog gave way to blue-sky days and the shooshing sea was a soothing backdrop for long walks along the gorgeous Coastside Trailmore »
Tiny Dog with BowHalf Moon Bay Brewing threw a great dane of a party this weekend to celebrate their 3rd consecutive win in the Beast of The Bay contest as the Best Dog-Friendly Restaurant in the Bay Area that was also a fundraiser benefiting the Peninsula Humane Society and SPCA. Kayla, DogTrekker’s Research Lab, attended the festivities and sniffed out this report.  more »

Fresh-air activities are major draws on the San Mateo coast, and we all know how ocean-scented breeze and exercise work up an appetite in both man and beast. Fortunately, many eateries along the coast welcome four-legged guests, so long as there’s a two-legged companion on the other end of the leash. Here are four worth barking about. more »
