The County of San Diego Department of Animal Services provides dog licensing and animal control services for the unincorporated areas of San Diego County. They care for more than 10,500 cats, dogs, livestock and exotic animals each year that are lost, abandoned or neglected.

The County operates 2 shelters, the North County Shelter located in Carlsbad, and the South County Shelter located in Bonita.
