The Fight is Over: the GGNRA Rolls Over!

After a 14-year battle to protect the rights of dog parents in the GGNRA, the National Park Service has withdrawn the proposed dog management plan. Here is the latest from Christine Corwin, Coastside Dog:

"For Pacifica and other San Mateo County coastside residents, GGNRA is literally our backyard.  Our communities have always been dog-friendly. Montara is known as 'Dog Town.' The withdrawal of the Dog Management Plan means that a valued way of life on the coast will continue,” said Christine Corwin, President of Coastside DOG of San Mateo County.

Our hope is that the end of the Dog Management Plan is the beginning of a positive and productive relationship with the National Park Service.  We all care about the GGNRA.  Lands like Rancho Corral de Tierra are protected and part of the GGNRA because of the efforts of our dog-friendly communities. It’s time to move forward.”

Coastside DOG is dedicated to preserving the rural dog-friendly lifestyle and economy that have become a cherished way of life on the San Mateo County coast. This is done by promoting responsible dog walking, advocating for dog-friendly trails and beaches, and celebrating the numerous dog-friendly businesses.

Stretching from Pacifica to Half Moon Bay, the San Mateo County coastside has long been a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and dog lovers. Where else can one find a world-famous big wave surf spot named after a dog, Maverick?

Starting in early 2017, this way of life will be severely impacted if the Park Service’s proposed dog management rule goes through. In San Mateo County, the rule will cut on-leash dog walking trails by 50-65% at four popular dog walking sites—Mori Point, Sweeney Ridge, Milagra Ridge and Rancho Corral de Tierramore »
