As part of the East Bay Regional Park District which is one of the most dog-friendly park districts in California, dogs must be on a leash where posted and under full verbal control elsewhere, and there is a lot of elsewhere!

Downloadable trail maps, brochures and mileage charts are available for each regional park and regional trail.  

Trails that allow dogs can be found here, while a list of parks can be found here. Please note that trails are shared with equestrians, although no bicycles are allowed. Safe multiple use of this and other multiple use trails requires everyone's cooperation.

Each trail user is asked to exercise common courtesy. Hikers must yield to horses. Stay to the right of the trail except when passing, and do not approach a horse from the rear unannounced.

The Briones to Mount Diablo Regional Trail spans the distance between Briones Regional park and Mount Diablo State Park, serving the communities of Lafayette and Walnut Creek and makes important connections to major regional trails.

There are several staging areas throughout Contra Costa County. Please note: dogs are not allowed on trails inside state-park boundaries.

• Hours of operation: Unless otherwise posted or permitted, open between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m.
• Leash rule: Dogs may be off leash if they are under full voice control.
