Bailey at Wild Blue Dog Camp
We all agree 2020 was a very tough year for travel, but there were a few bright spots. After working with many local health and other park jurisdictions in the South Lake Tahoe area, Wild Blue Dogs was given the go-ahead for their Fall 2020 camp. Actually, the camp turned out to be the only operational Dog Camp in the USA. Utilizing the most advanced cleaning techniques and social distancing protocols, the camp did not have a single reported illness. more »

Yes, it’s a long drive from California (650 miles and 10 hours minimum from San Francisco), but Portland-with-pup is worth the time-and-money investment. “Portlandia” (also nicknamed PDX, after its airport code), is a city of neighborhoods, so keep that in mind as you choose a base camp, plan your dog-friendly activities and plot how to get from place to place. more »

We Californians think our Highway 1 and Big Sur coastline are scenic, and they certainly are. But Highway 101, which runs a bit inland along California’s North Coast and continues over the state line into Oregon, gives it a run for the money. The road hugs 363 miles of Oregon shoreline, much of it given over to beaches. Almost all those strands are open to leashed pets, and many (outside state park boundaries) offer off-leash privileges as well. more »

Situated smack in the middle of the state and straddling a geographic divide—high desert on the east side, typical Northwest evergreen forests on the west—Bend is a sophisticated town of 82,000 that’s been drawing California refugees (and their four-legged friends) for decades. Dog Fancy magazine named it Dog Town USA in 2012, and in the years since, even more establishments have opened their doors to dogs. more »
