Humane Society for Inland Mendocino County 2015

Now hard at work in Mendocino County: A small horde of "elves," creating a festive selection of wreaths, swags, and other holiday décor, made of greenery from all around the region, all in support of the lifesaving work of the Humane Society for Inland Mendocino County. They're taking orders through December 16, for pickup at HSIMC's shelter in Redwood Valley, so if you're headed that way for a bit of pre-holiday peace and quiet, bring home a woodsy remembrance of fun times and good deeds.

Thanks to hardworking staff and volunteers, as well as a lot of community support, HSIMC has been helping out the County's animals and the people who love them since the '80s. A generous bequest in the early '90s allowed HSIMC to purchase the land where its roomy shelter now stands, offering a safe space for about 500 dogs and cats per year to wait for their forever homes. Some of them are strays, some are owner surrenders, and some are pulled from shelters where they're at risk due to overcrowding. And, says HSIMC's Maggie Weaver, "A donor's endowment is significantly helping us reach our goal of sustainability for years and years to come -- and continuing improvements."

Currently in residence is Lexi here, a 4-year-old pit bull terrier mix with fabulous ears and a big personality. She came through some hard times before landing safely at HSIMC, where she's become quite the favorite among the staff and volunteers. She loves to lounge on chairs or under blankets, and has excellent house manners. Lexi loves to play and does well with male dogs.  If you've got a nice cushy spot to share with her, find out more here.
