Catalina Island off the coast of Southern California is a favorite day-trip and weekend destination, and many travelers are surprised to discover that the Catalina Express, serving the island from Long Beach, Dana Point and San Pedro, does allow dogs.
Rules call for them to be leashed, muzzled or secured in an airline style carrier and kept close to their people at all times. No, we don't like the muzzle business either, but there's no use growling about it: it's the price DogTrekkers have to pay for access to a rewarding destination. Our advice: shop for a device that allows your dog to pant, and make sure he's cooled down and well watered before you put it on.
