When it comes to saving the lives of shelter animals, nobody can do it all. Which is why, when Best Friends Animal Society, long known for its rescue and sanctuary in Kanab, Utah, launched the No Kill Los Angeles initiative in 2013, it looked to build partnerships, collaborations, and community connections with shelters, rescue groups, businesses, community organizations, volunteers—pretty much anyone who wanted to help out.
And, thanks to spay-neuter programs, lively outreach, a robust adoption program at two adoption centers, large-scale adoption events and other synergistic efforts by NKLA to build a lifesaving culture, a lot more of L.A.'s temporarily homeless dogs get safely into new homes, with a save rate of 93.36% last year. They also have a safe, comfortable place to wait while their new family's out there looking for them.
Currently waiting is Olivia, who's mainly seeking peace, quiet, and snuggles, and also prefers to be an only dog. At 54 pounds, this pretty young adult Staffordshire terrier mix is the perfect size, has excellent leash manners, and would thrive on apartment life. Hanging out with you, that works for her.
